Resolved Question: sorry about all the questions, but im really unsure about this?
i live in the desert. i board my horse obviously in the desert. my horse is a 17 year old morgan/arabian cross. the outside of the boarding property is okay for horseback riding. whenever she is in a new place, she gets extremely excited. trots but stays at a walk speed, like trotting in place, ears up, nostrils flared, her tail as high as it could be, but shes very happy, not nervous. and very excited. im going to start taking her for a ‘walk’ in that part of the property. its a dried up lake bed. we stay on the hard packed dirt, so its like we walk on a little ridge on the far right of the bed. i dont want her sinking in the sand, i dont either. anyways, sorry about that. my question is, is that alot of people out there have large dogs, and they get out alot. many of them are horse friendly, my horse loves dogs. im worried about a dog that isnt used to horses, and decides to try to attack us. now the river bed goes for miles and miles. the only part im worried about is the northern part i think. its a road with alot of cars. its a two lane, but if she follows that road, she’ll be in trouble with all the cars. my question is, what should i do if a dog gets out and tries to attack her? i know she will get scared and try to run. should i unclip her lead rope and just let her go? i know she can outrun a german shepherd or rottweiler. or should i hold her? i thought letting her go cuz i wouldnt want her hurt if a pack of dogs came up. so what should i do?? please help!
not being rude, but if i thought my horse was too old to handle going far, i would retire her. she’s incredibly athletic, and can go for hours and hours. she acts like a 7 year old. she has no looks of being older except for some gray in her tail and a slight sway.

Resolved Question: Trying to find our ideal place to raise our family?
We currently live in Northern VA, in one of the more desirable counties in the country however I grew up here and what I loved about it as a child has drastically changed and we are no longer happy here. Here is our criteria.

A nice home with property for under 300k. Not suburbs. Not west virginia style boonies.

Clean nearby town with a Whole Foods Market (a 24 hour one would be fantastic) or other large natural/organic type grocery stores.

Forests, mountains, lakes, rivers are all good things. We love the outdoors. Fishing, boating, bike riding, hiking, rally racing, horseback riding, caving, are all ideal activities.

Obviously decent school systems, low crime, no drugs.

Local events like small town harvest festivals, music/art shows, museums, historical sites are great.

Within at most an hour drive of “civilization”. Which means some form of busy downtown with nightlife and preferably more upscale clientele.

Little to no nearby government and traffic!

States we are more interested than others: California, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, but we will consider anywhere in the states!

First clean off the wood with a damp rag. You may need to remove the old putty, so use a paint scraper or chisel to do this. Just scrape the putty off, remove any broken glass very carefully, and you may have to sand the bare wood in places, as well. This will make your finishing paint easier and smoother. Then paint primer will need to be put on the bare wood to hold your new putty more securely and for a longer time. Either water based primer or oil based is fine.

To order the glass for your window project, you will need to measure it and then add about 1/8 of an inch to the length and the width to allow for clearance. You can order the glass at any local home and building center.

When the primer dries, your glass is ready to be installed. If you use thin beads of putty, this works out best. Place it in the groove for the glass. Then install the glass. Glazing points are also something of importance as you will need them placed just a bit from the corners and on the sides of the window for strength and security. Next you will need to putty the windows, and let it set for a couple of days, at least. The longer the better for the putty to dry. Scrape off any excess putty, and it ready to paint. Tape up the edges of the glass to protect that from the excess splatters, and paint your wooden window.

So, if you are going to put forth your efforts into wooden window restoration, give thought to maintaining them from then on, as well. In this way, your future repairs will be less costly and time consuming.

As Boise real estate foreclosures rose in 2009, so did the number of complaints from residents seeking mortgage loan modifications. Foreclosures were up 89 percent from the previous year, but complaints about modifications leapt from a handful in 2008 to 353 in 2009, according to the attorney general’s office. These types of filed complaints made up one fifth of all complaints received by the AG’s office this year.

Idaho’s Attorney General has gone so far to say that the types of fraud being reported are outrageous. To make things worse, many home loans are not being modified by these companies, even though the property owners pay them lots of money to do so. The legal wrangling has led to 2 filed lawsuits, and 3 settlements being agreed upon on behalf of consumers, through the Attorney Generals office. This kind of criminal act leaves nearly all homeowners in the Boise real estate market without any avenue to keep their homes.

The Attorney Generals office even brought in a counselor to help Boise real estate owners avoid foreclosure through modifications or other foreclosure remedies. To help out, free foreclosure handbooks were printed up and handed out.

Efforts last year netted the largest amount of restitution ever recovered by the office – $7.4 million, about $12.14 for each taxpayer dollar budgeted for consumer operations, Wasden said. Topping any previous records, the AG’s office also collected $5.9 million in penalties, fines and fees for Idaho taxpayers. In 2009, the office also recovered $31 million through the tobacco master settlement agreement which was agreed upon in 1998 by the two parties. With a total net to date of $254 million, this agreement has helped Idaho tremendously.

“All together, the 13 people in our consumer protection division brought in $44 million for Boise real estate owners and the state last year, while we spent only $833,000 on consumer operations,” Wasden said. The department was very effective in the broad range of topics it worked in last year. Regardless of the size of the business, the attorney general pursued claims against pharmaceutical giants and small businesses alike. Illegal monopolies and price fixing remained huge targets, as well as any issue in the anti-trust arena. They even managed to reach an agreement involving a price fixing vitamin company.

Regarding the No Call Law, more than 900,000 phone numbers were registered by year’s end and residents report that they’re getting fewer unwanted calls. To add to it all, the office will soon come out with an instructional DVD on how teens can avoid being trapped by online sexual predators.
